Places to Visit
Main Square (Plaza de Armas) and its beautiful Cusco Cathedral.
The Plaza de Armas is the heart of Cusco. Founded by Manco Capac, it was named "Huacaypata," and from there, roads departed to the four regions of Tahuantinsuyo. The cathedral is located in the northeastern sector of the current Plaza de Armas of Cusco, on the site that was the Suntur Wasi, Palace of Inca Wiracocha. The complex occupies an area of 3956 m2. It is the most important religious monument in the Historic Center of Cusco.
The Twelve-Angle Stone.
The 12-angle stone is one of the symbols of the city of Cusco. Located on Hatun Rumiyoc street (Quechua for: large stone), it belongs to the construction where the Archbishop's Palace and the Museum of Religious Art of Cusco are currently located.
The Artists' and Bohemian Quarter "San Blas."
Also known as the "Artisans' Quarter" because it is where many Cusco artisans live and work. It is a place that must be visited during your trip to Cusco; additionally, many spots in San Blas will allow you to take beautiful views of Cusco.
The Koricancha or Qoricancha Temple.
It is a Quechua word meaning "Temple of Gold," however, according to some research, its real name would be "Inti Kancha," meaning 'Temple of the Sun.' Both names refer to the majestic gold decoration that was inside.
Traditional San Pedro Market.
Cusco's central market or San Pedro market was built in 1925 and is the oldest in the city. The construction was directed by Gustave Eiffel, the same person who built the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
